    • Age 47 in his 1857 marriage record would put his birth in about 1810, but age 45 in the 1850 Census puts it in about 1805. Birthplace reported by Findagrave as Beverly, Randolph County, which appears to be incorrect. William's 1857 marriage record states his birthplace as Lewis County and his residence as Gilmer County. This may actually have been the same place, since a portion of Lewis County (formed in 1816 out of Harrison County) became a part of the newly-formed Gilmer County in 1845.

      Following Matilda's death, William married Rebecca Allen in Roane County on Sep 10 1857.
