- Obituary, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, November 7, 1918:
WINS GOLDEN STAR
Ray Harbert, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Harbert, answered the Grim Messenger's summons and won the Golden Star at Camp Meade, Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, after a brief illness of influenza and pneumonia.
The bereaved father, one sister, Mrs. Normus Powell of Flint; his stepmother and a family of half-brothers and half-sisters at the old home in McClellan mourn their loss.
A particularly sad feature in connection with the death of this young man was his father, hearing of his illness, had started to Camp Meade Monday to see him, only to learn on his arrival that his son had passed into that Silent land from whose borne no traveler returns, and that the body ws on its way back to the home.
The profound sympathy of all loyal men and women goes out to the stricken family in their dark hour of anguish.
