- Obituary, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, September 12, 1918:
CLYDE ROBINSON WINS GOLDEN STAR
Word came to Mrs. L. A. Swiger of Folsom R. 1., McClellan District, on Sept. 5th that her son, Clyde Robinson, had been killed in action July 26th [sic], 1918.
Besides the bereaved mother, one brother, Herald, aged 14 years, mourns his loss.
Born in Harrison County, this noble young man moved to Doddridge some three years ago when his mother became the wife of L.A. Swiger, a well-known McClellan farmer.
Finishing his common school course, he enlisted in March 1917 in Co. K., West Virginia National Guard, was mustered into the Federal Service and trained at Camp Shelby, Hattiesburg, Miss.
He embarked for France early in 1918 and was a true and valiant soldier until the End of the Way came, bearing to his Life's Supreme Honor -- the Golden Star -- the Emblem of the Accomplished Mission of Our God.
Not yet 18 years of age, Clyde Robinson was not called to the Colors by the Law of the Land; his was a yet higher and mor beautiful call; his call was the still, small whisper of the Vocie of God; and he heard and heeded.
(Note: The surname Robinson was twice incorrectly given in the obituary as Roberts, once in the headline and again in the first paragraph. It was correctly stated in the last paragraph. The West Virginia State Archives Veterans Memorial Database and the American Battle Monuments Commission report his death date as Jul 21 1918. )
