- Due to company reconstruction, duplicate records for Benton Myers are filed under Co G, 5th W.Va. Cavalry and New Co G, 6th W.Va. Cavalry. On Mar 11 1864, he joined for duty and enrolled at Wheeling in the new Co G, 6th W.Va. Cavalry. The next day at Wheeling, he mustered in as a Private in the same unit. Company muster rolls show that in September 1864, he was sick at home in Doddridge County. On Nov 28 1864, at the Battle of New Creek WV, he was taken captive by Confederate forces. He was held as a prisoner of war at Libby Prison in Richmond until Feb 14 1865, when he was paroled at Annapolis, Maryland. He returned to duty in April 1865 and was mustered out on Jun 19 1865 at Camp Chase, near Columbus, Ohio.
