- Robert V. Duckworth joined for duty on Aug 20 1861 in Harrisville, Ritchie County. He mustered in as Private in Company E, 6th W.Va. Infantry, at Webb's Mill, Ritchie County, on Dec 12 1861. In March and April 1862, he served on detached guard duty at Burnt Bridge, near Tollgate in Ritchie County. Military records show that on Jun 23 1863, he was sick at a hospital in Clarksburg, Harrison County. On Dec 27 1863, as a resident of West Union, Doddridge County, he re-enlisted in Clarksburg as a veteran volunteer, rank Private, in Co E, 6th W.Va. Infantry. On Mar 29 1864, he was present for muster in Clarksburg as a Private in the same unit. Military records indicate that he died in Cumberland, Maryland, when he drowned by accidentally falling into a canal. Conflicting records indicate his death date as 20 or 29 Sep 1864.
