    • 1900 Census, Gilmer Co, WV (Glenville District), enumerated on Jun 7 1900:
      Charley Varner, 23, b. Mar 1877, farmer, married 2 yrs; wife Eliza J, 29, b. Mar 1871, married 2 yrs, no children; father-in-law Abraham Williams, 69, b. Jan 1830, farmer, widowed; boarder John Wright, 23, b. Apr 1877.
      NOTE: It appears that Abraham's daughter Louisa in the 1870 and 1880 censuses and his daughter Eliza in this census are the same person, with a slight change in name and ten years taken off her age when she married a much younger man. There is no record of Louisa after 1880, and there is no record of Eliza (or variations) before her 1898 marriage. No birth record is on file under either name.

      1930 Census, Gilmer County, WV (Center District), enumerated on May 3 1930 at Spruce Run:
      Charley A. Varner, 54, farm laborer, age 22 at time of first marriage; wife Liza, 60, age 30 at first marriage.
      NOTE: When Eliza died six months after this census, her death record gave her age as 69 and her birth date as 17 Mar 1861.
