      In the record documenting the issuance of their marriage license, the couple is identified as Nathan N. Davis, 21, res. Doddridge Co, son of William J. Davis; and Alcinda Ashburn, 18, res. Doddridge Co, dau of William Ashburn. License issued on Mar 21 1851.

      The marriage itself is documented on Page 16 of another record book, with the following verbatim entry:
      "Doddridge County Va. July 14 1851.
      I do hereby certify that on 23 day of March I duly and lawfully joined in the holy state of matrimony Nathan N. Davis and Alcinda Ashburn both of the County of Doddridge and state aforesaid. This given under my hand the day and year above written.
      Ezekiel Bee"

      (NOTE: Susie Davis Nicholson, p. 97, incorrectly reports marriage date as Mar 3 1851, with Alcinda Ashburn's birth date as Apr 10 1837, and states that the marriage ended in divorce. Wife's remarriage record confirms her divorced status, while the record of husband's remarriage identifies him as a widower.)
