Notes for: Mayme Lucinda Twyford

Well-educated and highly successful in professional life, Mayme Twyford was apparently also an early champion of women's rights. As a student at West Virginia University, she was the subject of the following lines of poetic humor in "The Monticola" junior yearbook, published by the WVU Class of 1920:

"Mayme Twyford
"West Union

"When Mayme has graduated from college
"She'll have a way of showing her knowledge;
"She 'II cross the country again and again,
"Teaching the women how to rule the men."
