Notes for: Cyrus Gaston

Cyrus Gaston's family moved to Iowa shortly after his birth. He was raised in Oskaloosa, Iowa and attended Oskaloosa College. He enlisted in Co K, 33rd Iowa Volunteer Infantry on Aug 15 1862 and served the next three years in the Civil War. In 1871 he went to Mitchell Co, Kansas, where he taught in a little dugout schoolhouse just south of Glen Elder until 1877, while also developing his homestead.
