Notes for: James Robinson Jones

Excerpt from "Genealogical & Personal History of Upper Monongahela Valley," 1912, by Bernard Butcher, p. 560:
"James Robinson Jones, son of Thomas Anderson Jones, was born in Smithton, West Virginia. As a boy, he worked on the farm, later took up the trade of carpenter, and for a number of years was engaged in the manufacture of flour. Then he removed to the west and was in the butcher business, and later went to Vinita, Oklahoma, and installed the entire gas system of that place. Still later he returned east, worked at tool dressing in the oil fields, and is at present working again at his trade of carpentry. He married (first) Columbia, daughter of Valentie and Caroline Langfitt; she died in 1889. He later married Elizabeth Ann Paine Armstrong."

Local news item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, Jan 18 1917, in its entirety:
"James R. Jones, of Smithton, was a business visitor last week. Mr. Jones is plumbing his residence at Smithton for water. He is piping it from a spring on the hill above his house."
