News item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, March 20 1913, in its entirety:
"Besides our present sheriff Eli Nutter, ex-Sheriffs John M. Gribble, Joseph Freeman, W. B. Gribble, W. B. Allen and J. E. Trainer were all at the Court House at one time Tuesday, as well as several of their respective deputies; it is not necessary to state that the very best of order prevailed."

From an article titled "News of the Week 35 Years Ago" in the "West Union Record" of June 22 1916, in its entirety:
"W. B. Allen and Judge Stuart, his counsel, went to Parkersburg Monday to attend the trial of the case of Allen against Adam's Express company, in the U.S. Circuit Court. And on Tuesday, Capt. Smith and wife, Wm. McConnell and Israel Allen went to attend said trial, as witnesses."
