Notes for: Chauncey Allen Riddle
Local news item, "West Union Record," Thursday, Oct 5 1916, in its entirety:
"Last Friday night, an automobile belonging to A. J. Riddle was run over the bank between here and Smithton and was pretty badly wrecked. Some boys took the machine, unknown to the owner, and started for a joy ride, with disastrous results. It is possible that more trouble will result from this affair."
Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, Oct 5 1916, in its entirety:
"On last Friday night, some boys took a fine, new Hupmobile car belonging to Chauncey Riddle, from where he had left it sitting on the street near the First National Bank, and after running it around town awhile, hit the pike in the "wee sma" hours of the morning and got as far as the lower end of the Dr. Wetzel farm, where it left the road and went into the creek. The car was pretty badly wrecked, and it is said the young man who was driving it has left for parts unknown."
Local news item, "West Union Herald," Thursday, Oct 5 1916, in its entirety:
"On last Friday night, someone took a fine new Hupmobile touring car belonging to Chauncey Riddle which had been left on Main Street, and after "joy riding" around town until the small hours, started toward Smithton, getting as far as the lower end of Dr. Wetzel's farm, where it left the road and broke a three-inch gas main. From all appearances, the car turned completely over and was considerably damaged, and the driver left for parts unknown, leaving his cap as a souvenir."
Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, March 28 1918, in its entirety:
"We just received a nice card from Charley Duckworth and Chauncey Riddle, the former with Co B, and the latter with Co C, 15th U.S. Engineers, A.E.F., France, via New York. Both seemed to be in fine spirits when they wrote, March 10th. Write the boys; nothing would please them better than a line from West Union friends."
