Notes for: Ebenezer Williams

Alexander Hamilton Wright, author of "The Descendants of Veach Williams," goes to great lengths to dispel a significant error in an earlier widely circulated Williams genealogy. He provides detailed compelling evidence for his conclusion, summarized as follows:

In "Genealogy and History of Family of Williams" by Stepen West Williams, M.D., published in Greenfield, Massachusetts in 1847, Ebenezer Williams is assumed to be the son of Park Williams, who was the son of Robert Williams' son Samuel. This assumption is wholly erroneous. Examination of the wills of Park, Ebenezer, William (brother of Ebenezer), and Isaac; of gravestone inscriptions; and of early town and church records of Boston, Roxbury, Newton, Lebanon and Mansfield, conclusively show Ebenezer to have been the son of Capt. Isaac Williams, who was son of Isaac, who was son of Robert of Roxbury.
