John Cleveland lived at Freetown, Bristol County, Massachusetts. Town records of Fall River, Bristol County, were burned in 1843, and the dates of birth of his children are lost.
Woburn Land Records: Oct 30 1717, Ebenezer Cleveland conveys to his younger brother, John Cleveland of Freetown, all right in estate of his grandfather, Moses Cleveland.
N.E. His. Gen. Reg. XIII : 255 - Marriages in Taunton solemnized by Maj. Thomas Leonard of Taunton from 1684 until his death in 1713, printed in "Bristol County Telegram" of Nov 20 1858: "John Cleeveland and Martha Simmons, m. Jan. 1, 1711-1712."
John Cleveland was elected pound keeper of Freetown Mar 29 1722 to 1730, Mar 5 1733 to 1735, Mar 3 1740 to 1745. He was still living as of 1745. He died intestate before May 2 1749, when his widow Martha was appointed administratrix. Joseph and Ambrose Cleveland were appointed bondsmen at different dates. A considerable estate.
