Notes for: John Dunham
Deacon John Dunham was born in England in 1589 and came to Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1630. Records show that he was a landholder in1632, freeman in 1633, and in 1633 his name was on the first tax list made. In 1639 he was deacon of Plymouth Church, and filled that office until his death. He was one of the first members of the General Court in 1639, and on May 16 1639 was elected to the Governor's Council. On Nov 6 1644, he was an Auditor for the Colony, with Miles Standish and John Done, to take account of Thomas Prence treasurership and certify to the General Court thereof. He was one of the first purchasers of Dartmouth, Massachusetts. He died on March 2, 1668 or 1669, age 80.
