Notes for: Orva Davis
Orva Davis' entry in "History of Doddridge County," (1979):
"April 26, 1918 I had to kiss my wife and mother goodbye and report to the draft board. I was sent to Camp Meade, Maryland for 2 months, then was shipped abroad aboard the Leviathin to Brest, France. After 6 weeks more training, we were sent to our first battle, which was Meuse Argonne Forest. The war ended November 11, 1918, and we happily thought we would be home for Christmas. Instead we spent the winter in France sleeping in barns with livestock or in pup tents on snow covered ground. Arrived home June 1, 1919."
