Other than her birthplace and approximate birth date from the 1850 Census, we have found no information regarding Annis, wife of Ammi T. Brown. The 1850 Census is the last record that we have of her. Her death was presumably between 1850 and 1870, since husband Ammi was found without her in the 1870 Census. No 1860 census record was found for either of them.
The name Annis is a medieval (both English and Scottish) form of Agnes much used by some colonial families. It is often misread as ‘Annie,’ a diminutive not used as a formal name much before the nineteenth century.
