Notes for: Daniel Freel Hudkins

Local news item, "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, July 15 1915, in its entirety:
"In 1849, Daniel Hudkins bought of Adam Weaver 214 acres of land in the Arnolds Creek-Cabin Run section at $1.75 per acre; and in 1850 Weaver's taxes on 2133 acres was $1.62. There is certainly one day in the year when we would all loved to return to ye olden times -- and that is the day we pay our taxes. Through years of patient toil, lands have been improved, cleared, fenced and made into comfortable homes, and the values have mounted some 15 or 20 fold; but taxes have that beaten to a frazzle and have mounted from 150 to 200 fold in the same period."
