Early in his working career, he was employed by Weirton Steel. For several years, he was a truck driver for Michels Oil Company of Pennsboro, and was also employed by Lewis Rogers at the Rogers Funeral Home and Rogers Furniture. He operated auctions in Ritchie, Tyler and Doddridge counties and was a dealer in antiques.
