Notes for: Hannah McClure

Children Alexander and Susan are reported in Hanna's "Ohio Valley Genealogies," p. 42, as being William J. Gaston's children by his first wife. But Hanna also concurs with the 1803 and 1805 dates of William's first two marriages. Several months pregnant, Hannah died of convulsions brought on by news that the British were about to attack her town. Their three children stayed with William's sister Jane in Raleigh for the next three years. William Joseph Gaston and Hannah McClure were first cousins once removed, as he was the grandson of William Gaston (b. 1680 in Ireland) and she was the great-granddaughter of the same William Gaston.
