OBITUARIES
Dustin N. McCormick
Dustin N. McCormick, 22, of Grantsville, died Wednesday, Oct. 29, 2003, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born Aug. 21, 1981, in Charleston, the son of Douglas McCormick of Grantsville and Cheryll Schnider of Ravenna, Ohio.

Surviving in addition to his parents are three sisters, Crystal Yarborough of Salisbury, N.C., Kera McCormick of Ravenna, Ohio, and Larissa McCormick of Shepherdstown; his grandparents, Jim and Evelyn McCormick, with whom he made his home in Grantsville, Bill and Arlene Smith of Florida, and Mr. and Mrs. Vince Pavlik of Deerfield, Ohio; his stepgrandmother, Nancy Powlowski of Atwater, Ohio; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Mr. McCormick attended Calhoun County schools and graduated from Lewis County High School and Buckhannon Welding School. He was a certified welder. He had worked at Foodland in Grantsville and most recently was working at Foodland in Glenville in the meat department. He loved his job and all the employees.

A funeral service was held Sunday, Nov. 2, at 2 p.m., at Stump Funeral Home in Grantsville, with the Rev. Carroll McCauley officiating. Interment followed in the Yoak Cemetery on Norman Ridge at Big Bend.

Sarah Jane Riggins
Sarah Jane Riggins, 75, of 37 Wood St., Jane Lew, formerly of Fairmont, died Nov. 1, 2003, at 1:30 p.m., at Crestview Manor Nursing Home in Jane Lew.

She was born May 13, 1928, in Preston County, a daughter of the late William and Reuah Alberta Sisler Riggins.

She was twice married, first to Frank Monell, and later to George Riddle, both of whom preceded her in death.

Surviving are one sister, Velma Hoover, and her husband, the Rev. William Hoover, of Westfield Road, Jane Lew; the following nieces and nephews who helped take care of her, Bob and Beverly Hoover of Jane Lew, Bill and Loretta Hoover of Weston, and Lillie and Frank Swisher of Jane Lew; several other nieces and nephews and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Annabelle Albert and Evelyn Kerns, and one brother, Matthew "Bud" Riggins.

Mrs. Riggins was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary in Fairmont and the Fraternal Order of Eagles.

A funeral service was held Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 3 p.m., at Morris Funeral Home in Jane Lew, with the Rev. Russell Furr officiating. Burial followed in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Roger Rex Swiger
Roger Rex Swiger, 61, of Simpson Run Road, Weston, died at 4:39 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2003, at his residence, following a brief illness.

He was born Oct. 1, 1942, in Doddridge County, a son of the late Ralph and Wauneta (Isner) Swiger.

His wife, Connie (Butcher) Swiger, whom he married Nov. 15, 1990, survives.

Also surviving are two brothers, Dwayne Swiger of Salem and Ray Swiger of Weston; one sister, Brenda Sue Rafferty of Weston; several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Swiger was a truck driver for Dodd Developers Inc. He attended Gee Lick United Methodist Church and was a member of Weston Chapter 90 International Order of Odd Fellows.

Friends will be received at Floyd Funeral Home on Wednesday, Nov. 5, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Weston Chapter 90 International Order of Odd Fellows will conduct an Odd Fellows service at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Nov. 6, at 11 a.m., at the funeral home, with the Rev. Russell Furr officiating. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens.
