News item in West Union Record, Thursday, Oct 7 1915, in its entirety:
ROLLER SKATING RINK WILL BE OPENED SOON
Council Monday night granted a permit to Ray smith to erect and operate a roller skating rink on the site where the old Garrison hotel formerly stood near the west end crossing. Mr. Smith is making preparations to begin the erection of the building at once, and will have the skating rink in operation in the near future. It is possible that the rink will be so constructed that in can be used for basketball.
Local news item reporting proceedings of the Oct 18th Doddridge County Court, "West Union Herald," Thursday, Oct 28 1915:
"Ordered that Ray Smith, who having presented to the Court a permit from the town council of the town of West Union, be granted a state license to conduct a skating rink in the new building now being erected by William Smith, at the West Railroad crossing in West Union, for the remainder of the license year ending June 30th, 1916."
