Notes for: Alfred Lee Willis

He was a farmer, a member of the Doddridge County Farm Bureau and the West Virginia 4-H All Stars. He was an overseas Army veteran of World War II, where he was a member of Co A, 893rd Tank Destroyer Bn. He received two Bronze Stars and the Purple Heart while serving in France.

The following article, presented here in its entirety, appeared in the Sep 21 1944 issue of the West Union Herald under the headline "Wounded in Action":
"Mr. and Mrs. Harry Willis of Blandville have been notified by the War Department that their son, Pvt. Alfred L. Willis, has been seriously wounded in action in France. Pvt. Willis served with a tank destroyer battalion. He is a patient in a hospital in England. Pvt. Willis, while in school here, was very active in Four-H Club work and was voted the healthiest boy in the state one year. He is a graduate of Doddridge County High School."
