Age 25 in 1880 Census would put birth in about 1855, while age 35 in Sep 1892 marriage record puts it in about 1856/57. But the 1900 Census shows it as Oct 1850, and age 64y 11m 8d specified in his obituary puts his birth date at Oct 15 1850.

  Notes	His parents were Paul and Frances Hinter, and he was born at Obertraun, Austria. Coming to this country when amere lad, he grew to manhood in the Cove section and began his business career as a clerk for Jack Lovett, a pioneer merchant of the Cove-Fink community. He came to West Union in the early eighties as a clerk for J. B. Markey. At other times during the early years of his career he was employed by J. B. Smith, Foleys and Koblegards. For the latter he drove a wagon, buying produce and delivering goods in the early days of West Union's first wholesale house. He also engaged in the mercantile business near the old DisDebar homestead, and for him the post office at Leopold was named. But it was as a stockman and farmer that he was most successful; yet Leopold Hinter never failed in any business. [Obituary, Doddridge County Republican, Thursday, Sep 30 1915)
