    • "Davis - The Settlers of Salem WV," p. 21, reports marriage date as Jan 30 1822. But Wes Cochran's "Harrison County WV Marriages 1785-1894," p. 51, shows it as Feb 14 1822, noting that the groom's name could be read as either Sears or Sayre.
    Notes
    • In the spring of 1865, what was left of Squire's family packed up and started for Illinois (after losing 3 sons in the rebellion). The tedious journey was not performed without a mishap, however, for in an accidental breakdown of a light wagon, Grandmother Sayre sustained injuries from which she never recovered (she died 11 Sep 1865). The families finally landed in Jasper County. Illinois, where they bought farms and settled in the vicinity of Newton. Shortly afterwards the grandfather passed away, the space of three or four weeks only separating their death (Squire died 5 Oct 1865). They are buried near Newton in Vanderhoof Cemetery.
