ministry-partner with her husband, Rev. Melvin Hollingsworth, |
- G. Virginia (Stansberry) Hollingsworth was a ministry-partner with her late husband, the Rev. Melvin Hollingsworth, for nearly seven decades. Mrs. Hollingsworth came to faith as a 13-year-old in 1925 and is pictured above with her late husband. She was a compassionate and gifted pastor's wife, serving in various capacities in the several congregations the Hollingsworths led in West Virginia, Ohio, Mississippi and Oregon. The Hollingsworths began pastoring a five-church circuit of United Brethren congregations on their wedding day, May 7, 1933. Following other ministry charges in West Virginia, the Hollingsworths joined the Ohio East United Brethren Conference in Tuscarawas County in 1943. They led a three-church circuit Winfield, Bisel and Crooked Run for 18 years. Their final pre-retirement pastoral charge was at Alliance's Vine Street United Methodist Church, serving from 1959 through 1969. Following retirement they served in Interim ministries, long and short-term, into the late 1990s. Vitality was a hallmark of the congregations the Hollingsworths served. Recipients and observers of their ministry saw them as gracious, convinced biblical Christians with in-depth commitment to Christ and love for people. Church growth and the deepening discipleship of their congregants characterized their ministry. Additionally, the couple mentored dozens who are currently in vocational and non-vocational ministries around the world. Other hallmarks of the practical aspects of Mrs. Hollingsworth's service were her lush gardens, laden dining room table and generous open-door policy. In the nearly 20 years the Hollingsworths lived in Winfield, Ohio, hobos alerted each other to the fact that at Mrs. Hollingsworth's, they would receive dignity and respect and a delicious, hot meal!
