  • Notes
    • 1850 Census, Doddridge Co, Virginia (now West Virginia), enumerated on Jul 27 1850:
Henry Ellifrit, 28, farmer, value of real estate $300; Nancy, 28; Flora E, 4; Eleanor, 2; Mary E, 4 months. All born in Virginia except Henry, born in Maryland.
The remaining members of the household all had the surname Dotson:
Elisha Dotson, 55, farmer, value of real estate $500; Ingaby, 34; Elisha Jr, 16, farmer; Irvin, 13; Daniel, 3 months. All born in Virginia.
NOTE: Relationship, if any, between these families is not certain, but may be based on the following: Elisha Dotson had a daughter with his first wife, Nancy. That daughter was Clarinda Dotson. Clarinda married George W. Ellifritt, son of Samuel Ellifritt. Henry was also a son of Samuel Ellifritt. As for Ingaba, she is believed to be a daughter of William Jesse Lowther & Mary (Lowther) Lowther, and to have been made a ward of Warner W. Chapman sometime in the 1830s after the death of her father. In the 1860 and 1870 censuses, this Dotson family was found in Wood County, and later in Kansas.
