    • From obituary of his daughter Rebecca Elizabeth Bennett, "West Union Herald," Nov 30 1939:

      Norvel Stuart Bennett "helped organize one of the first Masonic orders in the state in Morgantown. He was a carpenter by trade and served also as funeral director here for many years. In those days, the undertaker made his own caskets. He erected some of the oldest buildings in West Union, as well as railroad bridges and tunnels for the Baltimore and Ohio railroad from Grafton to Athens, Ohio. He served as jailer here under two sheriffs, Benton McMillan and John Donahue."
