He married ca 1759 in Loudoun Co, VA,8 Rachel Davis, b. ca 1745 in Loudoun Co, VA.[13]  Rachel: Rachel Davis was born about 1745 in Loudon Co, VA, and died probably between 1813 and 1815 in Allegany Co, MD.  The Davis family came to America from Cardigan, Wales.  Rachel's grandfather may have been Thomas Davis Sr., who died in Loudon County on May 6 1758 and was married to Margaret.13

Apr-  -1866 in Marion Co, WV,18 census 1810 in Allegany Co, MD.9  Though not proved, it is considered likely that this William Pritchard was actually the son of Thomas Pritchard Sr.'s presumed brother William Christopher Pritchard, who died six months before the child's birth.  Since no record of the child's mother, Amelia Knotts, is found after that, it is possible that she died during childbirth, and the child was then taken into his uncle Thomas' family.[20] He married Feb-  -1805 in Monongalia Co, (W)VA,[21] Hannah Meredith, (daughter of Davis Meredith and Unknown). Hannah: Hannah Meredith, wife of William Pritchard, was the step-daughter of William's sister Nancy Anne, who married Hannah's widowed father Davis Meredith.17

Generation Five

5.    Thomas5 Pritchard, Jr., (4.Thomas4, 3.Christopher3, 2.Thomas2, 1.Christopher1) b. Jan- 9-1768 in Leesburg, Loudoun Co, VA,15,[23],[24] d. Dec-24-1846 in Oxford, Doddridge Co, WV,23,24 buried in Oxford Baptist Church Cemetery, Doddridge Co, WV,[25],[26] [Emily Pritchard Cary (p. 82) reports his burial in "White Oak Cemetery, Oxford," while "Ritchie County WV Cemeteries," p. 631, reports his as the only burial at Pritchard Cemetery, described as "Incomplete.  Near Oxford; Exact Location Unknown.  See MKL - p. 40."], census 1810 in Monongalia Co, (W)VA,9 resided 1809 (moved) to Monongalia Co, (W)VA,[27] census 1800 in Allegany Co, MD.10  Thomas Pritchard's ancestors came from England and settled at Jamestown in about 1610.  His brother, John Pritchard, saw three years of service as a soldier in the Continental Army during the American Revolution.  In about 1832, Thomas Pritchard came from The Glades in Preston County and built the first mill on the South Fork of Hughes River, below Oxford, making the first settlement in that area.  A certain Henry O. Middleton had given him one hundred acres of land in that wilderness as inducement to settle and to erect a saw and grist mill.26 He married15,26 (1) Jan-  -1796 in Allegany Co, MD,[28] Nancy Tichenell, b. ca 1767 in Morris Co, NJ,[29] (daughter of Moses Tichenal and Margaret Jackson) d. bef Oct 1812 at the Glades, near Rohr, Preston Co, WV,10,26 buried at the Glades, near Rohr, Preston Co, WV.26  Nancy: "Nancy Tichenell, first wife of Thomas Pritchard Jr., was descended from a prominent New Jersey family, most of whom retained the original spelling of Tichenor.  Beginning with Nancy's father Moses, a Revolutionary War soldier, the spelling went awry, and his descendants used a variety of forms, most ending with 'L'."

Nancy Tichenell (Titchenell, Tichnell, Tichenal) died before Oct 25 1812 (the date of husband Thomas Pritchard's remarriage to Mary Moody) in what is now Preston Co, WV.  Nancy and Thomas had seven or eight children.  Some genealogists believe that his daughter Mary was actually the daughter of Mary Moody.  Because his daughter Elizabeth was born Feb 20 1812, it is quite likely that Nancy died at the time of that birth, a common even in pioneer families.  Mary's given name is another clue.

"Two weeks after their marriage in Allegany County, Maryland, Thomas became the guardian of Nancy's younger siblings, Stephen Tickenal (sic), Margaret Tickenal, and Jain (Jane) Tichenal, orphan children of Moses Tickenal, all of that county."[30] He married (2) Oct-25-1812 in Monongalia Co, (W)VA,15 Mary Moody, b. 1785 in Cumberland Co, PA,27 (daughter of Robert Moody, Jr. and Mary Jane Hutchison) d.
