Christopher¹ Nutter, b. 1642 in Lancashire, England,^[1],[2] d. 1702 in Somerset Co, MD,^[3] buried in Old Mamskin Church Cem, Princess Anne Co, MD,^[4] occupation Government Indian interpreter.^[5] According to Northampton County, VA, court records, Christopher Nutter was born in 1642, probably in England, and died in Somerset County, MD in 1702. He emigrated to Northampton Co in August 1662. His wife, Mary Dorman, was an indentured servant of John Curtis. Christopher's will was probated in Somerset Co, MD, dated Dec 2, 1702.^[6]

He married Sep- 4-1665 in Sussex, VA,^[7] Mary Dorman, b. ca 1650,⁶ [Other researchers have reported birth date as ca 1642.], (daughter of John Dorman and Sarah ___) d. bef 1702.⁶

Hanna: There is some question as to the identity of Matthew Nutter's first wife, but it appears to have been Hanna Miller, the daughter of Jacob Miller. Jul- -1807 in Harrison Co, WV,^6,4 buried in Nutter Fort, Harrison Co, WV.⁴ In 1760, Thomas Nutter moved his family to Rockingham County, VA, and then to Augusta Co. In about 1769, the family moved to Fayette Co, PA, where they lived until about 1772, when they moved to the area of present-day Clarksburg, WV. Thomas Nutter served the Colonies in the Revolutionary War as an Ensign in Captain William Lowther's Company. 11. John⁵ Nutter, (7.Thomas⁴, 4.Ann³, 2.Charles², 1.Christopher¹) b. ca 1765 in Sussex Co, DE,^6,4 d. Jan- -1808 in Harrison Co, (W)VA.^6,4 John Nutter (1765-1808) moved with his parents to Fayette Co, PA in 1769, and to Harrison Co, VA (WV) in 1772. In 1772 he lived at Nutter's Fort, which his father Thomas Nutter was instrumental in building. John's will was either written or probated on Feb 22, 1808 in Harrison Co. Among other property, he left 200 acres of land in Ohio, suggesting that he had visited there at one time or another.⁶ He married Oct- 2-1786 in Harrison Co, (W)VA,^6,4 Elizabeth Cottrell, (daughter of Andrew Cottrell and Nancy Moor).

Reedy Creek is located in Roane Co, WV. Military records (http://www.rootsweb.com/~wvcalhou/soldiers.htm) give his birth as 1825 in Kanawha Co.], d. 1912,²⁶ buried in Winner-Ball Cemetery, near Rocksdale, Calhoun Co, WV.²⁶ Levi Nutter enlisted in the Confederate Army on May 1 1862 in Calhoun County, serving in Co A, 3rd Virginia State Line (Moccasin Rangers), although post-war rosters show his enlistment as Dec 6 1862. Muster rolls show him in Co A, 19th Virginia Cavalry, as of Feb 28 1863. Further enlistment in Williamsburg, Greenbrier Co, WV on Mar 1 1863, but not stated if present or absent on muster-in-roll dated March 1863. The Census of 1860 shows him as a farmer, age 35, in Calhoun Co, (W)VA. The Census of 1880 shows him as a farmer, age 55, in Lee District of Calhoun Co, WV.²⁶ He married¹² Sarah "Sally" Starcher,^[27],25 b. 1826 in Kanawha Co, (W)VA,¹² (daughter of Phillip W. Andrew⁶ Nutter, (11.John⁵, 7.Thomas⁴, 4.Ann³, 2.Charles², 1.Christopher¹) b. ca 1794 in Harrison Co, (W)VA,⁶ [Don Norman gives birth as ca 1791 in Harrison Co, but Hardesty states that Andrew Nutter died in 1855 at the age of 61. This would make the birth year ca 1794.], d. 1855,^6,[34] resided in Oxford, Doddridge Co, WV,^[35],[36] occupation farmer.³⁶ Resident of Harrison Co, WV, and later Ritchie & Doddridge Co, WV. Served in the War of 1812 in Captain Davis's company, attached to the First Regiment, First Battalion, and First Brigade of the Virginia Militia, participated in the engagement of Fort Defiance on the Maumee River, and was discharged at Delaware, Ohio on April 4, 1813.

The 1850 Census of Doddridge County reported the following persons in his household: Andrew Nutter, age 59, born in Virginia, occupation farmer; Malinda Nutter, 59, b. Virginia; Sarah Nutter, 17, b. Virginia; Elizabeth Nutter, 13, b. Virginia; Julia Warren, 25, b. Virginia; Willis N. Warren, 3, b. Ohio; and Elizabeth Warren, 93, b. South Carolina.^6,[37],36 He married Jan-20-1814 in Harrison Co, (W)VA,⁶ Malinda Willis, b. ca 1798,^6,34 (daughter of William Willis and Nancy Ann Douglass) d. 1861,^6,34 census 1850, 1860 in Doddridge Co, (W)VA.^36,[38]
