There has been much confusion over the birth date of Samuel A. McNemar. His headstone reads Dec 30 1830. A delayed birth record for son Joseph, submitted by daughter Margaret Martin 2/24/1953, gives Samuel's age at Joseph's Nov 1878 birth as 48, making Samuel's birth Dec 1829. Samuel's age at death of 87y1m19d reported by the doctor puts birth at Dec 31 1828, and age at death of 89 reported by the undertaker puts it ca 1826/27. Age 21 given at marriage puts birth ca 1837, while age 26 in 1860 Census makes it ca 1834.

1870 Census, Harrison Co, WV (Tenmile District):

John W. McNemar, 33, farm laborer. He was the only member of the household.

Freasure, also known as Hannah Frazier,⁴⁵ b. ca 1843 in Meigs Co, OH,¹⁴ [Age 32 shown at time of 1869 death would put birth in about 1837. But marriage record and 1860 Census show it as about 1843. Also, birthplace of Doddridge County shown in death record is at variance with Meigs County, Ohio birthplace given in marriage record. It is likely that the death record informant erred in confusing her birthplace with her childhood residence.], d. Hannah: There is some confusion regarding the parents of Hannah J. Freasure, wife of John Wesley McNemar. There are two entries reported for Hannah and John's Aug 1859 marriage in Doddridge County. The first entry identifies her as Hannah J. Freasure, age 16, daughter of Franklin Freasure. The second entry identifies her as Hannah J. Frashure, age 16, b. Meigs Co, OH, daughter of Allen & Elizabeth Frashure. And her March 1869 death record in Harrison County identifies her as Hannah McNemar, 32, daughter of David & Elizabeth Freashure.

Ira: Dow Gaston, as he was known, retired from the Equitable Gas Company in 1949 with 28 years of service. He was a member of the Cabin Run Methodist Church; the Friendship Lodge No. 56 A.F. and A.M., and Order of the Eastern Star Chapter No. 56, both of West Union; the Clarksburg Lodge of Perfection; Clarksburg Chapter of Rose Croix; Wheeling Council of Kadosh; and Wheeling Consistory. The small grocery store located next to the family home on Oxford Road at Cabin Run was built in 1949, largely from wood salvaged from an abandoned one-room school building. The store was operated by Ira Dow Gaston and family until shortly before his death. The store and home then stood vacant until June 1974, when daughter Geneva and her husband Armand Brown moved from Ohio to reside and operate the store. The store was closed for the last time on May 31 1985, and the building was dismantled in July 1993, with much of its original wood salvaged for reuse.
