McNamarrow, Elizabeth McNamarrow, Frances McNamarrow, Nancy McNamarrow, Philip McNamarrow, Martin McNamarrow, Mary McNamarrow.  Exec: wife Elizabeth and son John.  Wit: Jos Nevill, Henry Going, William Nevill, Thomas Wheeler."2.

(13), Mary Jane (11), Martin (9), Edward (7), Margaret R. (5), Charles A. S. (1), William J. G. (1), and Martin McNemar (73, occupation farmer).  William Idleman would be Martin McNemar's son-in-law. He married Mar-15-1797 in Grant Co, (W)VA,4,3 Ann Gibbony.

5.    Philip3 McNamara, (2.Joseph2, 1.Joseph1) b. ca 1807,8 resided 1830, 1850 in Hardy Co, (W)VA,[10],8 occupation farmer.8  The 1830 Census of Hardy County lists in the household of Philip McNemar one male under the age of 5, one male between 20 and 30, and one female between 20 and 30.  The adult male was probably Philip himself, although the form was intended to enumerate only the non-named persons in the household.

      

       The 1850 Census of Hardy County, enumerated in Sep 1850, reports the following persons in the household of Philip McNemar, with their ages:

       Philip McNemar (43, occupation farmer), Mary Ann (40), Samuel A. (19, occupation laborer), James S. (18, occupation laborer), Ann R. (16), John W. (15), William B. (14), Beckwith A. (10), David C. (5), Sarah E. (4), Lydia M. (2), and Susan C. (one month). He married8 Mary Ann ___, b. ca 1810.8

Nov- 2-1882 in Lahmansville, Grant Co, WV,15,3 resided 1850 in Hardy Co, (W)VA.8  The 1850 Census of Hardy County reported the following persons in the Joseph McNemar household, with their ages:  Joseph McNemar Jr. (52), Mary (43), Joseph (22), Gustavus Nadele (20, b. in Germany, occupation carpenter), John B. (16), Jesse (14), Samuel B. (6), Sarah E. (5), Thomas M. (3), Otis C. (2), Henry Frymuth (25, b. in Germany, occupation cooper), Ann Hilkey, 23, and Jane Smith, 18.  It is noteworthy that the husband is identified as Joseph McNemar Jr. although his father is believed to be Martin McNemar.

       The 1860 Census of Hardy County reported the following persons in the Joseph McNemar household, with their ages:  Col. Joseph McNemar (62, occupation farmer), Mary (52), Samuel (17), Sarah E. (14), Thomas M. (13), and Otis C. (12). He married (1) Mar-18-1823,4,3 Elizabeth Idleman, b. Feb-18-1806,4 (daughter of John O. Idleman and Abbey Frey) d. Mar-11-1836.4  He married (2) Oct- 4-1838,4 Mary Smith, b. Jun-13-1808 in Ireland,3 d. Aug- 1-1887 in Lahmansville, Grant Co, WV,3 resided 1850, 1860 in Hardy Co, (W)VA.8,9

Feb-19-1916 in Ritchie Co, WV,[18],16 buried in Oil Ridge (aka Fairview) Church Cem, Co Rd 26, Ritchie Co, WV,16,[19] resided in Cairo, Ritchie Co, WV,[20] resided 1850 in Hardy Co, (W)VA,8 occupation farmer, blacksmith.[21],[22]  There has been much confusion over the birth date of Samuel A. McNemar.  His headstone reads Dec 30 1830.  A delayed birth record for son Joseph, submitted by daughter Margaret Martin 2/24/1953, gives Samuel's age at Joseph's Nov 1878 birth as 48, making Samuel's birth Dec 1829.  Samuel's age at death of 87y1m19d reported by the doctor puts birth at Dec 31 1828, and age at death of 89 reported by the undertaker puts it ca 1826/27.  Age 21 given at marriage puts birth ca 1837, while age 26 in 1860 Census makes it ca 1834.

       The 1860 Census of Doddridge County reports the following persons in the S. A. McNemar household, with gender and ages:  S. A. McNemar (male, 26, farmer), B. McNemar (female, 19), J. A. McNemar (male, 1), and M. C. Vincent (female, 8).  The young male would be son James Sanford McNemar, the middle initial being in error.  The identity of the young female is not clear, but could be Basheba's younger sister Mary Catherine, despite the variance in age. He married Aug- 3-1858 in Doddridge Co, WV,[23] Basheba Belle Vincent, b. Jul-20-1839 in Marion Co, VA,[24] (daughter of Joseph Isaac (twin) Vincent and Sarah Shingleton) d. Mar-12-1923 in Harrison Co, WV,[25] buried in Oil Ridge (aka Fairview) Church Cem, Co Rd 26, Ritchie Co, WV.[26],[27]  Basheba: Basheba's father Joseph fathered three other children by a second wife, Mary Ann Bryan Smith, and ten more by a third wife, Lida Arthelia Pinell. Basheba's first name appears variously as Bashabee, Basheba (1850 Census), Barsheba (marriage record), Basheber (death record), Bashabel (son Joseph's birth record), and Bashie (headstone and son James' death record).  In addition to the nine children documented here, Samuel & Basheba may have had one other child, a son named, or at least known as, "Sant," per Walter Ray "Shiner" Husk.

McNemar was identified as a widower at the time of his Jun 1905 re-marriage to Mary Westfall.], resided 1900 at Freemans Creek, Lewis Co, WV.37  He married (2) Jun-12-1905 in Lewis Co, WV,[40] Mary ___, b. Oct-  -1871,37 [Age 44 given at time of June 1905 marriage would put birth at about 1861.  But 1900 Census gives age as 28 and specifies birthdate as Oct 1871.], d. Mar-  -1934, resided 1900 at Freemans Creek, Lewis Co, WV.37  Mary: Previously married to a Westfall.  The 1900 Census of Lewis Co identifies her as Mary Westfall, a widowed head of household, the only other household member being a daughter, Emma M., born Oct 1891.

11.    John Wesley4 McNemar,[41] (5.Philip3, 2.Joseph2, 1.Joseph1) b. ca 1838 in Hardy Co, (W)VA,8,[42] [Age at time of 1850 Census given as 15, putting birth date at about 1835.  But age 21 at time of marriage in Aug 1859 would put birth date at 1838, and age at time of re-marriage in May 1871 was given as 33, putting birth date at about 1837 or 1838.], resided 1871 in Harrison Co, WV,42 resided 1850 in Hardy Co, (W)VA.8  1860 Census, Doddridge County Virginia (now West Virginia):

         J. W. McNemar, male, age 29; and H. J. McNemar, female, age 16.  Despite the man's age variance, this must be John W. McNemar and his wife Hannah J. Frashure.  There were no other household members.

        

         1870 Census, Harrison Co, WV (Tenmile District):

         John W. McNemar, 33, farm laborer.  He was the only member of the household. He married (1) Aug-27-1859 in Doddridge Co, (W)VA,[43],[44] Hannah J. Freasure, also known as Hannah Frazier,41 b. ca 1843 in Meigs Co, OH,11 [Age 32 shown at time of 1869 death would put birth in about 1837.  But marriage record and 1860 Census show it as about 1843.  Also, birthplace of Doddridge County shown in death record is at variance with Meigs County, Ohio birthplace given in marriage record.  It is likely that the death record informant erred in confusing her birthplace with her childhood residence.], d. Mar-27-1869 at Coburns Fork, Harrison Co, WV,[45] cause of death "child bed fever".[46]  Hannah: There is some confusion regarding the parents of Hannah J. Freasure, wife of John Wesley McNemar.  There are two entries reported for Hannah and John's Aug 1859 marriage in Doddridge County.  The first entry identifies her as Hannah J. Freasure, age 16, daughter of Franklin Freasure.  The second entry identifies her as Hannah J. Frashure, age 16, b. Meigs Co, OH, daughter of Allen & Elizabeth Frashure.  And her March 1869 death record in Harrison County identifies her as Hannah McNemar, 32, daughter of David & Elizabeth Freashure. He married (2) May-22-1871 in Harrison Co, WV,[47] Sarah A. Anderson, b. ca 1853 in Doddridge Co, (W)VA,42 (daughter of John Anderson and Mary J. ___) resided 1871 in Harrison Co, WV.42
