Some question exists as to her correct first name. Although widely believed to have been Sarah, evidence seems more to indicate Elizabeth. In either event, she was known almost exclusively only by her middle name, Jane. Her name was given as Jane in the 1870 Census, and even her headstone identifies her only as "Jane, wife of Isaac Husk." The death record of Isaac Newton Husk incorrectly lists his parents as Isaac Husk and Jane Whetlatch [sic], confusing his mother with his grandmother, Sarah Whitlatch.

She married Isaac Husk, census name Isaac Hush,^[32] b. Jan-12-1818 in Greene Co, PA [Son George Washington Husk's death record identifies his father's birthplace as Pennsylvania, and daughter Martha's death record states father's birthplace as Greene Co, PA. But 1850 Census of Greene Co, Pa. gives his birthplace as Virginia, while all other family members are shown as being born in Pennsylvania. In the 1900 Census of Doddridge County, Isaac Husk was listed in the household of son George and was described as 81, b. Mar 1819 in Pa, father b. in (blank), mother b. in Pa, widowed.

The original charcoal of the widely-distributed formal portrait of the elderly Isaac Husk was handed down to his grandson Walter "Shiner" Husk. Per Shiner's instructions, upon his death in 1993, it was in turn passed down to Isaac's great-grandson Samuel D. Gaston.

Civil War records on file at Doddridge County Court House show that W. E. Crichfield [sic] enlisted in the Union Army on Jan 3 1862. According to his grave marker, he was a member of Company M, 6th West Virginia Infantry, with rank of Private. His death occurred on Aug 10 1864 in Cumberland, MD, and was the result of falling from a window of a hospital building. He was buried in the Nutter Cemetery on the Maxwell Farm in Doddridge County. Location of the cemetery was specified as "4.0 miles west of Porto Rico on Route 23. Cemetery 400 ft. north of highway." This corresponds to oral family history provided by Walter Ray "Shiner" Husk, who advised that a headstone does exist for William, but not for his wife Malinda buried beside him.

William Leonard Husk and his first wife, Susan Emma Husk, were first cousins once removed by virtue of his being the grandson of Samuel (d. bef 1848) and Elizabeth Husk, and her being their great-granddaughter. None of their four children lived beyond infancy. In the 1890's Leonard Husk and his family moved to Jackson Co, WV, Leonard later moved to Durbin, Pocahontas Co, WV, where he worked as a logger.^[104]

Excerpted from his obituary: "'Jimmie' was a kind and noble son and brother and will be greatly missed in the home and in the community by all who knew him, for he was always jolly, good-humored and greeted everyone with a song and a smile." Charles: The obituary of Charles L. Leeson states: "In 1896 he was married to Miss Nancy Husk, and to this union was born two children. His wife and children preceded him in death many years ago. Henrietta: The Husk Hotel in Spencer, Roane Co, WV was owned and operated by Henrietta Smith Husk. Her daughter Virginia ("Jennie") helped run it in the beginning, then she too opened her own hotel next door. The Husk Hotel eventually burned down, and Henrietta then moved next door and helped operate Jennie's hotel.⁷
