Notes for: Sarah Ann Linkswiler

Joseph William Ross is identified in his death record as a son of James Ross and Sarah Lindswiler, but he does not appear in any census with that family. The child whose age corresponds to that of Joseph is identified as Josiah R in the 1870 Census, and as Robert W in the 1880 Census.

James Ross, 50, farmer; Sarah, 34; Margaret A, 17; Unus, 15, idiot; Joshua T, 13; George A, 11; James H, 5; Josiah R, 2. All born in Virginia, except Josiah, b. in W.Va.

1880 Census, Harrison Co, WV (Union District), enumerated on Jun 8 1880:
James Ross, 60, b. Va, farm laborer; wife Sarah A, 45, b. Va; son Joshua T, 23, b. Va; son James H, 15, b. Va; son Robert W, 12, b. W.Va; son Stonewall J, 10, b. W.Va; son John M, 7, b. W.Va; dau Mary E, 4, b. W.Va; boarder Newton Cogill, 28, b. Va, day laborer; boarder Thomas R. Winden, 26, b. Va, day laborer.
(Note: It appears likely that the Robert W in this census is the same son identified as Josiah R in the 1870 Census and who was otherwise known as Joseph William Ross.)
