Notes for: Waldo F. Randolph

At WVU's West Virginia & Regional History Center in Morgantown is a folder of letters written by Waldo Fitz Randolph to his father, William Fitz Randolph. It appears that Waldo was in a mental institution in Staunton, Virginia at least from 1851 to 1859. In the letters, Waldo described how his fits had lessened and that he wanted to come home to serve the Lord and attend church. The file contains several items of correspondence between Waldo, his father and Waldo's doctor.

Patient records on file in the Western State Hospital Collection at the Library of Virginia show that Waldo F. Randolph was a patient in residence there for 11y 5m 8d, from his admission date on 3 Nov 1851 until his death on 11 Apr 1863. His condition was described as epilepsy, without improvement. A remark in the file made note that his parents were first cousins once removed.
