Notes for: Elizabeth Dye

Many researchers report Oldridge Ford to be a son of Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Dye, but we have found no evidence to support that. When Thomas Ford died in 1860, his will listed eight surviving children, none of whom was Oldridge. The death record of Oldridge Ford identified his father as Richard Ford, mother not given.

"Davis - The Settlers of Salem, West Virginia," p. 359, reports nine children for this family, the eight listed here plus a son Stephen J. Ford, with no dates or other information. Again, Oldridge Ford is not included. Some researchers who have included Stephen with this family have reported that he died at Libby Prison in the Civil War. But we have not found a military record for this Stephen Ford, nor a listing for him in any pre-Civil War census.
