"State of West Virginia vs. Vance Ice, bastardy. Recognizance in the penalty of five hundred dollars."

Local news item from Center Point in the "Doddridge County Republican," Thursday, October 7 1914, in its entirety:
"Vance Ice came home recently from Clarksburg where he had been employed on the Maxwell farm wells. We regret to state that about a month ago, Mr. Ice met with a serious accident while working on a well, through a defect in the bandwheel. He was just in the act of stepping over the bull-rope when the wheel blew up and the rope struck him with such a force that he was thrown to the roof of the rig; and when he fell back on the rope, came dangerously near being dragged into the bull-wheels. His right leg is seriously injured, and he was confined to the hospital for two weeks before he was able to return home."
