"In early manhood he taught school at Wheeling, improving his time meanwhile reading the law. He located at St. Clairsville in 1855, and the following year was elected clerk of the courts. He was a fine scholar and a matchless orator. He died at the early age of thirty-one, the most brilliant and promising young man of his time."
