Mrs. Clara J. Smith, 77, of Shirley, died Dec. 6 at home after a lengthy illness. A daughter of the late Marion and Sarah Lanham George, she was born in Doddridge County on May 20, 1896. Her husband, Lee A. Smith, died in 1968. Survivors are: four sons, Ray of Shirley, Roy of New Cumberland, Robert and Raymond of Frederickstown, Ohio; three daus., Mrs. Essie Spencer of New Cumberland, Mrs. Evelyn Davis of Winterville, OH, and Mrs. Edith Mayes of Utica, OH; two bros., Alex George of Wolf Summit and Charles George of Salem; a half-bro., Asa George of Pennsboro; a half-sister, Samantha Smith of Glen Burnie, MD; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Two daughters and a son preceded her in death. She was a member of the Shirley U. M. Church, where services were held Sun., Dec 9, with Rev. Donald Flynn officiating. Interment was in the Shirley Cemetery.
