Local news item, "West Union Record," Thursday, February 13 1913, in its entirety:
"R. N. Hupp of Smith's livery barn had a gathered jaw last week, caused by a defective tooth, which became so bad he had to be placed under the influence of an anesthetic, and the jaw operated on. Dentist Geo. C. Howard and Dr. E. T. Wetzel performed the operation which was highly successful, and he is now able to be at work."
