Notes for: Dessie Tabitha Pitts
She was appointed County Clerk by the Doddridge County Commission July 1955 after the death of County Clerk Hall Maxwell and upon expiration of that term she was elected to that position becoming the first woman to be elected to a Doddridge County office. Dessie continued to serve as County Clerk for 32 years. Prior to serving in that position she was secretary to Judge Robert L. Holland, SR.; Prosecuting Attorney, and Deputy County Clerk. During WWII she was employed by John Deere Co. working in Battle Creek, MI in the billing department.
