Notes for: Leopold Hinter
His parents were Paul and Frances Hinter, and he was born at Obertraun, Austria. Coming to this country when amere lad, he grew to manhood in the Cove section and began his business career as a clerk for Jack Lovett, a pioneer merchant of the Cove-Fink community. He came to West Union in the early eighties as a clerk for J. B. Markey. At other times during the early years of his career he was employed by J. B. Smith, Foleys and Koblegards. For the latter he drove a wagon, buying produce and delivering goods in the early days of West Union's first wholesale house. He also engaged in the mercantile business near the old DisDebar homestead, and for him the post office at Leopold was named. But it was as a stockman and farmer that he was most successful; yet Leopold Hinter never failed in any business.
