Winfield Scott Stuart was a prominent lawyer of West Union, a former prosecuting attorney of Doddridge County, and a B&O attorney for several years before retiring in 1946. He also was attorney for local several gas companies, and was divorce commissioner of Circuit Court for many years. The home he built in West Union in about 1915, plans for which were drawn by his wife Nannie, was placed on the National Register of Historic Buildings in 1993 and is still in use as a law office.
