Notes for: Walter D. Sutton

He was the son of missionary parents and grew up in Burma, where he spent his childhood. He and his wife spent nearly every summer in Garrett County, MD for the past 30 years. During World War II, he served as a junior officer in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Caine. He was an official of the Central Intelligence Agency in Washington, D.C., from 1950 until his retirement in 1979 as the Director's press review officer. While at the CIA, he held several senior level positions, including the chief of the Southeast Asia Branch of the Office of Current Intelligence, the Director's representative in Singapore, and the principal liaison officer with British Intelligence.
