Notes for: Peter Broadwater Michael

Angeline and Peter B. Michael lived for some time in Westernport, MD, and in Pennsboro, WV. On Mar 30 1878, they purchased a 313-acre farm from Mary and Ephraim Bee in Southwest District of Doddridge County, near Oxford. The farm had previously been owned by Eli Tucker. The Michael family lived in the existing house while the new home was being built in the 1880s. Later generations of local residents came to know that building as the Broadwater house, as it was occupied for many years by F. Ronald and Leona Broadwater. The home eventually fell into disrepair and was demolished within a few years of Leona's 2005 death.

The Oxford Methodist Church was built on land donated by Angie and Peter Michael. The church was moved off the hillside by the cemetery to its current location on the opposite side of the road to allow easier access. The nearby Oxford School, which was demolished in the early 1940s, was also built on land donated by the Michael family.
