Notes for: Anna Gay Hileman

Identified as "Gay" Phipps in all references (i.e., obituaries of family members) except for her father's obituary ("Anna E." Phipps), her own obituary ("Anna Day" Phipps) and her husband's obituary, of which there are two versions. One version identifies her as Anna J. Hileman Phipps, while the other has it as Anna Gay Phipps. The latter form is considered to be correct, with the other middle names or initials being typographical or editorial errors. It is clear, however, that she was known almost exclusively by her middle name Gay.
