Mr. David Lee Shields, 70, of Frederick died Monday, October 15, 2007 at the Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the husband of 12 years to Lorraine Wilhelm Shields.
Born in New Cumberland, WV on June 22, 1937, he was the son of the late Gilbert A. Shields and Vera Cogar Shields-DeBrular. A 1955 graduate of Doddridge High School, David went on to obtain his Bachelor of Science at Southeastern University in Washington, D.C. He retired from Knott and Geisbert as a parts manager, but still worked with them on a part time basis.

An outstanding athlete who loved all sports, David was an All-State Quarterback in West Virginia during his high school years. He was an avid Washington Redskins fan, loved NASCAR, especially Tony Stewart.

Besides his wife, survivors include his daughter, Davera Lea Shields Gabriel of Davis, Calif.; his loving granddaughter, Davienne Sayra Gabriel of Davis, Calif.; a step-daughter, Cheryl Lynn Milor and husband Howard III, of Frederick; a step-son, Michael David Watts and fianceeĢ Maggie Ashcroft, of Frederick; a sister, Linda K. Shields Maxwell and husband Richard, of Vienna, W.Va.; a brother, Donnie Gil Shields and wife Susen, of Newnan, Ga.; two nieces, Paula D. Maxwell DeLong and husband Chris and their two children, and Melissa K. Howell and husband Doug and their two children; and a nephew, Richard J. Maxwell II and wife Lisa and their three children.

The family will receive friends on both Wednesday and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will be held on Friday, October 19, 2007 at 10 a.m. with Rev. Tim May officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
