Notes for: Harvey Junior "Tuffy" Nicholson
During the Great Depression of the 1930s, served two years in the Civilian Conservation Corps at Thornwood, Pocahontas Co, WV. He then served four years in the U.S. Army, three of which were in Europe at the height of World War II, including the Battle of the Bulge. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in battle. He had been employed by the Keely Construction Co, and 15 years for the Carnation Milk Co, both of Clarksburg. In 1968 he took a position as custodian at the Doddridge County High School, where he was employed for ten years, then worked another eight years for the Board of Education's Maintenance Department, retiring in 1986. Along with his wife Virginia, he was at the time of his death the co-publisher of "The Herald Record" newspaper in West Union.
