Notes for: Forest Francis "Spike" Underwood

Attended Davis & Elkins College, Ohio State University, and West Virginia University, earning an A.B. degree from Marshall University in 1939 and an M.A. from Marshall in 1960. He was a professional football player with the Cleveland Rams in 1937 and the Cincinnati Bengals in 1938. He served as assistant football coach at Huntington East High School in 1940, was the head football coach there 1946 to 1956, and was assistant football coach at Marshall University from 1957 to 1968. He was honored as the West Virginia Coach of the Year in 1946.
