Notes for: William Jett
According to "History of Doddridge County," p. 362, William Jett and his wife Sarah came to American from Wales shortly before the American Revolution, settling along the Potomac River below the city of Washington, and he died in 1817 in Fauquier County, Virginia. But Minnie Kendall Lowther's "Ritchie County in History and Romance," p. 275, reports that he was born in Fauquier County in 1764, and that he was still living there as of April 1834, the date of his military pension application.
He served his adopted country as a soldier in the 8th Virgina Regiment. The Adjutant General's Office shows that he enlisted for two years on Feb 3 1776. His name still appears on a muster roll, dated Feb 4 1778, showing that he was still present. William & Sarah had six children.
