Notes for: Howard Harrison Jones

After the death of their mother in 1890, Howard Harrison Jones and his brother James were reared in the home of their grandfather, Samuel Morris Gaston, and his second wife Rebecca Jane Furner Gaston. Howard graduated from Glenville College in 1916, and was principal of Hillsboro Grade School in Pocahontas Co, WV. During the school year he was called into the Army due to World War I and was commissioned a Second Lieutenant in the Army Air Corps. He was discharged in 1918. He became Superintendent of Doddridge County Schools for eight years. He and wife Miriam served as counselors at Camp Lightfoot, near Hinton, attended by some 800 miners' children.
